Sausalito Residents

Sausalito is often thought of as one of the quieter and more relaxed corners of the San Francisco Bay Area because of the slower pace and more hospitable atmosphere that is generally present in town. With a population of only slightly more than 7,000 full time residents, the city is definitely smaller than most of its neighbors and reflects this in the smaller downtown area and quiet evenings.

Belying its size, Sausalito has a vibrant community full of life and activity throughout most months of the year and generally has crowds of visitors present for its holiday and seasonal events. When events are not in full swing, the neighborhoods are quiet and tree shaded with sweeping panoramic views over the San Francisco Bay and the harbors adjacent to the downtown area.

A maritime community at heart, this history is still present around the harbor areas in Sausalito. With both fresh seafood restaurants and boats in large numbers, the community’s roots as a shipbuilding and fishing village are still evident. Sausalito is among the few communities left in the San Francisco Bay Area that has a large population of residents living within bounds of its harbors on houseboats and other watercraft. Visit Sausalito on almost any day of the year and you will find its harbors full and the slips reserved for visiting boat traffic filling as well as visitors use watercraft as a primary means of transportation to reach their destination.

Residents of Sausalito, CA can easily take advantage of their wonderful town and enjoy many forms of entertainment without ever leaving home. From world class restaurants and entertainment to the region’s leading art galleries and exhibitions residents have their choice when it comes to in-town entertainment and activities. With many outdoor activities and attractions within easy reach and exercise and health options available in town as well, residents tend to lead an active lifestyle and are generally adventurous and outgoing.

Proximity to many of the Bay Area’s leading areas for technology and business allows for easy access when it comes to employment and commuting for Sausalito residents. Many residents work in San Francisco and either commute via public transportation or car via the Golden Gate Bridge, or commute on the ferries that run between Sausalito or Larkspur and San Francisco. Many others are able to easily commute to the commercial centers of the South, North, and East Bay areas for work as well.

Sausalito allows for a unique blend of small town life at the edge of the Bay and an accessibility that isn’t often found to both the outdoors and natural beauty of the area as well as the big city happenings of San Francisco and the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.
