Beginning Beekeeping 2: Building a Healthy HomeSaturday, March 10
9 am - 4 pmLed by Alan HawkinsIn the Wheelwright CenterMay all beings be happy. May they be joyous and live in safety. -Metta SuttaDuring this second workshop we will begin to construct hives and frames. The emphasis will be on foundationless frames for both Langstroth and top bar hives. We will design a beekeeping plan for the year; learn to examine a hive; anticipate bee behaviors through the seasons; and understand how to react to these behaviors. Participants may make an appointment with Alan to work bees with him at Green Gulch or in Tracy. Workshop participants will go home with the knowledge to complete their hives and prepare them for bee delivery on April 21. Please bring a hammer, bee veil, and other protective equipment with you.Wear layers of light colored clothing-it will be chilly outside. A vegetarian lunch is included in the cost of registration.Full Series and More Information: Beginning Beekeeping Workshops Series 2012Part 3: Seasonal Transitions and Honey Bee Delivery Day - Saturday, April 21Part 4: Harvesting Honey - Saturday, June 16Maximum workshop size for parts 2, 3, and 4: 15 Related Bio(s):Alan HawkinsAlan Hawkins received the bodhisattva precepts (jukai) in 1992 and works with bees at Green Gulch and in Tracy.
