Fado Night at the Pines |

Join us at The Pines, a historic estate near Sausalito's Old Town for an evening of Fado featuring Fadista, Marylou Lawerence, David Garcia, and guitar players ROUXINOIS. Fado music is the national song of Portugal. The fado is intimately intertwined with Portuguese food, wine, and culture. Fado song and lyrics express and convey - in the international language of music - the emotions of love, joy, sadness, pain, passion and loss. To truly understand Portuguese culture one needs to experience a "Uma Noite do Fado" (A Night of Fado). The fado is traditionally performed in the fado clubs in the ancient Alfama district of Lisboa (Lisbon) in small venues that were traditionally wine cellars, and which provide excellent sound dynamics for the acoustically performed art form. We are extremely fortunate to be able to present and recreate this "Clube de Fado" ambience in Sausalito, in the large wine cellar of the beautiful The Pines mansion, originally built in 1888, and painstakingly remodeled and restored to its former glory. This venue will truly recreate a transportive experience of being in a Clube de Fado in the Alfalma district of Lisboa, in our very own Sausalito. This fund raising event will benefit the Sausalito-Cascais Youth Sailing Exchange sponsored by the Sausalito Yacht Club and the Cascais Sausalito Sister City Council. The Consul General of Portugal, the Est. Nuno Mathias, will be attending. Their will be a very special tasting of wines of Portugal donated by Vini Portugal (Wines of Portugal), where you can experience fine Portuguese regional wines, which are being newly-discovered in California as providing quality wines that compete on an international level in taste. [The renowned sommelier, Euguenio Jardim, will attend to exploit these excellent Portuguese varietals.] Student sailors from Cascais' Clube Naval (Yacht Club) youth sailing program will visit Sausalito in July 2015, to be followed by an exchange of student sailors from the Sausalito Yacht Club youth sailing program who will visit Cascais Portugal in the summer of 2016. This is the first international youth sailing exchange in the Bay Area. In addition to the Fado, there will be a buffet [Portuguese-style "petiscos" (tapas) dinner, no host cocktails, raffle prizes and an auction. Their will be a truly memorable Portuguese experience in Sausalito which celebrates the 150 or more years of Portuguese-Azorean presence in Sausalito. The evening starts at 6:30PM Cocktail attire. Free Shuttle Service from the top of Spencer Ave and City Hall parking lots.
