There are two ferry companies that serve Sausalito, the Blue & Gold Fleet and Golden Gate Ferry. Trips on the Blue & Gold will last about 30 – 35 minutes and they provide regular Sausalito ferry service to and from Pier 39 in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Warf. Trips on the Golden Fate Ferry last only 25 minutes and they provide weekday service with reduced service on the weekends and specific holidays.
The Blue & Gold Fleet is also known as the Sausalito Ferry. In 2009 this ferry ride was named the #2 “Most Exciting Ferry Ride in the World” by the Society of American Travel Writers. On the ferry you will cross the San Francisco Bay, see Alcatraz Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, Berkeley Hills and the beautiful San Francisco Skyline. You can purchase Sausalito Ferry tickets online, at the box office on Pier 39 or on board the ferry. Tickets are $10.50 for adults, $6.25 for kids, seniors 65+ and disabled. The Golden Gate Ferry serves Sausalito on the weekdays and also serves other areas around San Francisco. They do have a special weekend/holiday schedule so if you would prefer taking the Golden Gate Ferry on a weekend be sure to check their schedule. The Golden Gate ferry has numerous departure time options during the week, so it is very flexible with visitor’s schedules who might want to spend the day in San Francisco or maybe just go for lunch. A popular ferry day trip involves taking the Blue & Gold Ferry to Fisherman’s Warf where you can shop, walk along the pier and Warf and eat some of the finest fresh seafood in the country. Others might be interested in taking a bus or bike to San Francisco and then taking the Golden Gate Ferry back to Sausalito. Whatever you have in mind, a ferry ride to San Francisco is the most scenic and interesting way to get there from Sausalito.
