How A Leg Bag Works with the External Catheter System

A leg bag is part of the system of the external catheter system.  Like a traditional catheter, this system drains the urine.  This procedure may be necessary for diagnostic testing, though it is usually the result of bladder problems or surgery.  What’s nice about this system is that it is less psychologically painful than inserting a device through the penis into the urethra.

While a traditional catheter is not actually painful (provided you know what you’re doing and use lubricant) it can be very discomforting to men.  The external catheter system, with leg bag, works like a condom.  While not all men love the feeling of a condom, at least putting one on is preferable to pushing a device into the penile hole.

The only disadvantage of the system is that the external condom may be more expensive than a cheap catheter system.  One reason for this is because these condom-like devices are only meant for one use.  However, the leg bag can be cleaned, using anti-bacterial washing liquid or another powerful appliance.  The pros are significant; not only is the condom system more convenient and safer, but it is also made from silicone, which minimizes the chance of infection occurring.

The condom-like cover does adhere to the penis however, as it is vitally important to prevent leakage from occurring.  If you wear the device properly, the urine will enter the leg bag and can be easily disposed.  The bag contains a special valve at the top that prevents backflow.  The only way urine can move is through the bottom of the bag, where it settles, ready for disposal.

You can learn more about this bag and the complete external catheter system from visiting a trusted medical site.  You can buy these devices from an online store and get a discount if you look carefully.  The listed price for these catheters can be as high as $4 each, though some stores may sell them for close to $1.  Obviously, you must buy in quantity, since this is meant to be a temporary and disposable item.  You can buy these clear catheters in boxes of 30, 100, or even more.  Therefore, the average price might be $150 per box.

Don’t hesitate to get help if you have problems with incontinence or other urinary medical issues.  Using these modern products, you can still go about your life comfortably and with your dignity intact.
