When you think of insulin syringes, what do you imagine? If you have been diabetic for quite some time, then you likely know what to expect. But for people who are newly diagnosed, misperceptions are quite common. Many people envision the giant insulin needles that were used a generation or two ago. The needles that were incredibly long and thick and sometimes required patients to give themselves more than one injection at a time. The good news is that this is certainly not what things are like today.

Modern insulin syringes are actually quite small. They are designed to slide into the skin with minimal feeling at all, and are certainly not nearly as painful as they once were. The needles themselves are incredibly tiny, and the reservoirs are much larger, ensuring that patients no longer have the need to take shot after shot in order to meet their insulin needs. This can certainly provide a great deal of relief for many newly diagnosed patients, as fear of needles and frequent injections is actually incredibly common for recently diagnosed diabetics.

Once you understand that modern insulin syringes are not so intimidating, it can be comforting. It is important that you understand safety precautions, however, such as ensuring that you always clean the area and take care not to get air bubbles into the syringe. It is also critical that you never reuse a syringe, as this can greatly increase the chances of infection as well as increase the risk of skin and tissue damage. Using a clean needle every time is always the right option. Of course, these new smaller syringes have made big hits in medical news, and you will certainly find that they are a great choice for your needs compared to larger and bulkier needles.

If you are worried about the cost of insulin syringes, you will find that there are cheaper options than your hospital, pharmacy, or local medical supply shop. If you use an online medical supply store, you will be able to order the same syringes from the same brand names you already trust and receive the same quality. The difference is that you can save significantly on cost and have them delivered right to your door. If you prefer, you can even set up automatic shipments so that you never again have to worry about running out of insulin syringes when you need them most.
