The Sausalito Public Library is a full-service library with both in-person and online options. During recent months, California budget concerns have placed the public libraries into the news as potential unnecessary parts of the overall budget plan. Here in Sausalito, our public library services are solid, with safe-guard plans in place as backed by our community group of volunteers: The Friends of Sausalito Library.

In-Person Services at the Sausalito Public Library:

Our community library offers a variety of media options that can be enjoyed at our library facility or taken home for timed personal use. Community members and visitors to our area are allowed to take advantage of our media offerings. Visitors can use our media database and selections inside of the Sausalito library; or, request a short-term visitor pass from the librarian on duty. Resident library cards and temporary passes are awarded to people who can show a photo-clad identification card that is issued to their address.

The Sausalito Public Library offers stories, special events and age-appropriate media options for children. Each year, the Sausalito Library attempts to provide up to eight structured special events that are designed to promote the love of reading to children. While the library is concerned about the well-being of neighborhood kids, parents are advised to monitor the media materials that their children are interacting with. The public library offers a diverse collection of media choices that cover many types of topics.

School-age children, teens and adults have high-quality research materials available at our Sausalito facility and through an exchange program with other California libraries. When people are interested in obtaining a specific publication, this book, recording or educational film can be procured through our networking services. Reference materials, research papers and non-fiction books are available to borrow in the same manner as the popular fiction titles that are being released on the current public best-seller lists.

In Sausalito, it is possible to connect to Wi-Fi computer access through the public library. The library has a limited number of computers available for the public to use and enjoy. Local residents and visitors can sign-up to use library computers on a shared-time plan. When people are waiting in line to use a library computer, the amount of time each user can use this technology is limited so that all people can attend to their computing needs. The library computers include a suite of Microsoft Office programs for patrons to enjoy.

Many people are surprised to learn that it is possible to check-out eBooks to be read on laptops or the new hand-held personal readers. To access these services from the local public library, users must possess a current Sausalito library card, or visitor pass, and an online access to the Sausalito Public Library Website.
