Sausalito Ferry Routes and Schedules

One of the most enchanting aspects of Sausalito is the fact that it is a waterfront town with a rich maritime history. From the shops and artwork to the restaurants and outdoor activities, it’s hard not to be reminded of the close ties to the San Francisco Bay. The perfect way to get in the spirit of your trip is to make the voyage on one of the regularly scheduled ferries that service the city.

The ferry rides to and from San Francisco last approximately between a half and one full hour.  The Sausalito ferries travel between two of San Francisco's most famous destinations, Pier 39 and Pier 1, otherwise known as The Ferry Building. If you are planning a trip, for the day or the weekend, take a look at the ferry services and travel over the water to make your grand entrance!

There are two separate ferry services that serve Sausalito and travel to and from ports in San Francisco for visitors and commuters to and from the North Bay Area.

Blue and Gold Fleet – To and From Pier 39

Named the “Number 2 Most Exciting Ferry Ride in the World” by the Travel Writers of America in 2009, the Blue and Gold Fleet has proudly served as the Sausalito Ferry for years and has helped commuters, day-trippers, and visitors get to and from Sausalito in style. Along the way on your short journey from San Francisco to Sausalito, you’ll see Alcatraz, Angel Island, and the Marin and Tiburon headlands and get a feel for the scope and history of the famous San Francisco Bay. Tickets one way to and from San Francisco are $10.50 for adults and $6.25 for children and seniors.

Golden Gate Ferry - To and From The Ferry Building

The Golden Gate Ferry also serves passengers going to and from Sausalito and around the San Francisco Bay. Pick up tickets and hop aboard the ferries at the wharf area in San Francisco and you’ll get a tour of the bay and views of Alcatraz, Angel Island, and the Tiburon area before coming in to dock right in downtown Sausalito. The Golden Gate Ferry has a slightly different, and not quite as regular, schedule to Sausalito than its Blue and Gold counterpart, so be sure and check the schedule before you go. Tickets for the Golden Gate Ferry are $9.25 for adults, $4.50 for seniors and youth, and children under 5 years old are free!

Take the Ferry to San Francisco for a Day Trip!

For visitors from out of the area visiting Sausalito, this makes the perfect launching pad for a host of day trips and adventures around the Bay Area. One of the most popular side trips for visitors staying in the Sausalito area is to pick up the ferry in downtown Sausalito and ride across the Bay to the wharf area of the city and shop, eat, and have fun before coming back across to their lodging. Ferries make the perfect way to get into and out of San Francisco without having to worry about driving, traffic, parking, or hassles!
