The State of California requires all fishing enthusiasts to procure a fishing license from the department of Fish & Game. All people over the age of 16 are required to purchase a fishing license in Sausalito. These family-friendly locations can often be reached by bicycle or through public transportation methods that run between Sausalito and popular Marin County attractions. China Camp State Park: This historic location is located in Marin County, on the San Pablo Bay. China Camp has shoreline and offshore locations that are still excellent for fishing today. During the 1800s, this was the location of a Chinese-operated fishing village that sent their catches of fish and shrimp home to China. The State of California offers free boat launches in the park. McNears Beach Pier: McNears Pier opened in 1989 a short distance away from the popular ‘China Camp State Park’ in San Rafael, California. This pier was destroyed in 2008 by a naughty barge and reopened in 2010. For more information: (415) 446-4424.

 

Notes: The McNears Beach Pier is situated so that it is accessing deeper water; fish to the left side of the pier for the best depth. The ‘T’ section at the end of the pier is where most of the fishing enthusiasts go; however, locals find that the left section of the pier, slightly beyond the halfway mark is the most active location. It is possible to find large kingfish, flounder, striped bass, sturgeon and sharks. Fees are charged to enter the park.

 

Paradise Beach Park: Paradise Beach Park has an extra-long pier that is a popular place for fishing. This park is located nearby to Mill Valley in Tiburon, accessed by Hwy. 101. Anglers can catch striped bass, sturgeon, sharks, perch, bat ray, crab and an occasional halibut.
