Sausalito
offers two distinct shopping districts, the well known “Downtown” area which
runs along Bridgeway and crosses Princess Street and the lesser known area to
tourists, but popular to the locals from all over Marin and San Francisco,
Caledonia Street.
In
the Downtown/Princess waterfront district, many fun-filled artisan stores are
set into historic buildings and offer stunning views of San Francisco, Angel
Island and Alcatraz while you stroll along window-shopping. Shoppers will spend hours browsing the one-of-a-kind
designer fashions from stores like Georgiou and Gene Hiller, elegant art
objects and collectables for the home from Nana’s Treasures, Out of Hand and
Something/Anything and fun and whimsical items for children at stores like Cha
Cha Cha. The Downtown area also
offers a nice selection of restaurants, wine tasting and coffee shops, which offer
patio seating where you may relax and take in the views.
Caledonia
Street is the hidden gem. Within
walking distance from Downtown, follow Bridgeway North through Sausalito. You’ll
find many more bayside restaurants and just one block to the west you’ll
discover Caledonia. High-end
fashion awaits you at Green Apples, as well as across the way at the Yoga
Studio’s shop. Katya is just
next-door with stunning one-of-a-kind hand made glass and silver jewelry and
all along Caledonia you’ll find more art galleries and fun trinket shops. Once again restaurants are plentiful
and will typically be populated by local Sausalito residents. Caledonia also is home to the local
movie theater, several frame shops, our local library and yoga studio.
If
you are looking for a prime shopping ground for your next weekend out in the
Bay Area, or want a new and different locale to take in the sights, experience
a different style in clothing and merchandise, and maybe take in a bit to eat
while you are out, take a look at Sausalito’s shopping variety and prepare to
be amazed!
