A Seasonal Approach to Choosing Wedding Flowers

Make sure your wedding flowers look beautiful

Are you looking forward to the big day? Of course you are! And while you will no doubt be busy choosing dresses, locations and music, you can’t dismiss the importance of appropriate matching wedding flowers. While some couples enjoy the idea of choosing wedding themes according to color (certain colors supposedly symbolize the relationship), other couples simply plan colors according to season.

What are some general rules to remember? When it comes to wedding flowers and spring, remember that spring represents rebirth and rejuvenation. Since spring represents vigor and sunshine, aim for colorful flowers like yellow, green and blue. Many brides and floral planners like daffodils, casa blanca lilies, sweetpeas and tulips.

The summer season brings intense heat, though that can only add to the “amour” you feel for your partner. When planning summer weddings, think about brighter colors, yellows, whites and ivory flowers. Popular types include English lavenders, tuberoses, gerbera daisy flowers, stephanotis and sunflowers.

The fall season is sometimes seen as a sad season, or at least an emotionally reserved one. However, fall still has some brilliant color themes including colors of orange, brown and silver. Popular flower types for fall include dahlias, marigolds, zinnias and asters. Dried leaves are also very popular decorative pieces for fall weddings. We now come to winter, the coldest time of the year for what should be a warm occasion. All the snow goes good with camellias, jasmines, lilies, tulips and wax flowers. The best colors include red, white, green, brown, maroon and peach.

Of course, these are just suggestions and there are flowers and colors that are appropriate all year round. For example, roses, carnations, gardenias and orchids are acceptable January – December. Roses are almost timeless in their popularity; even eucalyptus and lilies of the valley are chosen for wedding themes.

All in all, you must choose a flower type that perfectly captures your feelings in visual form. Don’t worry too much about the season or about reading too much into personality-color theory. In the end, you and your spouse want to be happy with the event and want those floral arrangements to look stunningly beautiful. The best floral decorations complement the bride and groom, but do not detract attention from where it should be. These wedding floral arrangements should also match the overall theme of the ceremony.

Your wedding day is the most important day of the year. Choose your wedding flowers of choice according to your heart, not your head!
