Head to San Francisco by Ferry

Take a day trip to San Francisco by water and see the sights on the Bay as you venture southward into the city. Ferries leave Sausalito and neighboring Larkspur with regularity and take visitors through to ports in San Francisco where you can take in a show, eat at one of the city’s world famous restaurants, or explore the wharf and embarcadero areas by foot before rejoining the ferry for your return voyage!

One of the interesting and unique aspects of a ferry voyage on the San Francisco Bay is the sense of history and intrigue that is associated with the trip. Take a good look at the world’s most famous prison, Alcatraz, or the beautiful slopes of Angel Island as you pass by. A ferry ride from Sausalito to San Francisco is an adventure in its own right.

Visit California’s Wine County

Just north of Sausalito are several of California’s most renowned and esteemed wine growing appellations and they are extremely accessible for a day trip from your waterfront resort accommodations. Barely an hour north is the famed Napa Valley which is home to more than 400 wineries and is world famous for its bold and distinctive winemaking styles. The neighboring Sonoma Valley is home to an almost equal number of highly respected wineries and a downtown shopping district that rivals all others in the Bay Area as an attraction of its own. Traveling slightly further afield to the north will bring you into the Healdsburg area at the top most end of the Napa and Sonoma regions and into a quiet and rural stretch of vineyards and wineries that is like visiting another world altogether. If wine tasting and touring is your adventure of choice, head north from Sausalito!

Cross the Golden Gate

One of the most iconic landmarks in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge stands tall and proud just south of Sausalito and is an adventure in its own to cross and see the scenic views and soaring majesty of the bridge itself. Interesting by car, the bridge is a favorite for visitors and residents alike to cross on foot or via bicycle. Take a hike across with your traveling companions, or rent a bike in downtown Sausalito and make a ride of it!

Sausalito makes the perfect spot to begin your northern California adventures, offering the best in hotel, dining, and sightseeing opportunities while keeping you right in the midst of a variety of possibilities for side trips and explorations.
