Whenever you hear people talk about investing in gold, you probably wonder just how they go about buying the metal. Some people choose to invest in mine companies, or gold stock, but those options aren't always as sure and steady as investing in bullion. For this reason, quite a few people are choosing bullion for their investments. When you choose bullion, you will have the commodity on hand, literally. You will be able to sell your bars or coins whenever you have the mind to do so. You don't have to go through a broker and you don't have to worry about the company in which you invested going out of business!

The gold coin is one of the most popular options for investors today. However, you need to make sure that you are buying the right type of coins for investment. This means that you are going to want to stay away from rare coins. That's not to say there isn't money in rarities, but it is just more difficult for someone to make money if they are purely buying for investment. With rare coins, you need to have a love of coins and their history to get the most out of them. Bullion coins are a different beast altogether, and you will find that you have plenty of options when it comes to those types coins.

One of the most popular types of gold coin is the Gold Eagle. These coins are from the United States and they have many different options even within that single type of coins. You will be able to choose coins that are a full ounce, half-ounce, quarter-ounce and tenth of an ounce. The Gold Buffalo is available only in one size, and it has a higher purity, but it can make a great investment as well. Some of the other popular coins include the Vienna Philharmonic and the South African Krugerrand. The Canadian Maple Leaf is another coin that has multiple denominations. The ability to buy the coins in different sizes is great for those who are investing on a budget.

Once you know the type of gold coin in which you want to invest, you will need to find a company through which you can buy them. Find a large company that has been in business for a number of years. The older companies have had the time to learn the process of selling the coins and have built a great reputation.
