Do I need to pay for parking on the weekends and on holidays?
Yes. Parking regulations are enforced 365 days a year. However, parking at on-street metered parking is free from 6:00 pm to 9:00 am. The fine for an expired meter is $43.00.
How long can I park my car on a city street or in a municipal parking lot?
Generally, a vehicle can be parked at one location for no longer than 72 hours on any public street or municipal parking lot. Drivers who park their vehicles for longer than 72 hours are subject to a $283.00 fine and having their vehicle towed. This requirement does not apply to vehicles parked on private property.
72 hour parking is available in Municipal Lots 1 and 3.
The police department does not grant exemptions for parking in excess of 72 hours. Residents who are planning to leave on vacation are asked to make arrangements to have their vehicle(s) moved every three days or to park their vehicle(s) on private property.
What are the downtown parking rates?
Municipal Lots #1 and #2: The cost is $1.00 per 20 minutes , or $3.00 per hour. Maximum of $25.00 per day.
Municipal Lot #3: The cost is $1.00 per 30 minutes , or $2.00 per hour. Maximum of $25.00 per day.
Municipal Lot #4: The cost is $1.00 per hour. Maximum of $5.00 per day.
The parking machines in the downtown lots accept credit cards or coins. If paying by coins, we highly recommend that you bring dollar coins (except Eisenhower dollars) if parking for an extended period of time. The machines do not accept paper money.
Can I park on residential streets?
Please be careful when parking on residential streets. Many areas have restricted parking and require a City Resident Parking Permit. Parking in these areas without a permit can result in a $66.00 fine.
Are there any other parking regulations I should be aware of?
Trailers, including boat trailer, cannot park on a city street for longer than 1 hour ($43.00 fine). Some areas are specifically marked ”No Boat Trailer Parking.”
Motor Homes must be moved at least every 8 hours ($263.00 fine).
Can I park at a broken street meter for free?
No. Please call 415-289-4170 to report broken or jammed meters. Drivers parking at a broken meter can be subject to a $43.00 fine.
