The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California offers humanitarian aid to sick or injured sea mammals along the western coastline of America. In our modern world, people often forget that our planet is dominated by amazing sea populations that can be harmed through human activities on the sea. Marine mammals can suffer life-threatening injuries from net entanglements, boat bumps, chemical spills and the garbage that man leaves behind after pleasure cruises out on the water.

About the Marine Mammal care facility in Sausalito:

Oceans cover over 70% of the Earth; water populations interact with land inhabitants and the outcome determines the overall health and wellbeing of our planet. The Sausalito Marine Mammal Center was founded in 1975 to provide human scientific and medical resources to the sea mammals that frequent our western American coastlines. Since 1975, this Sausalito-based institution has helped over 16,000 sick or injured seals, dolphins, porpoises, whales, sea lions and endangered sea mammals that are found in our regions.

The most active area covered by the Sausalito Marine Mammal Center runs between Mendocino County and San Luis Obispo County along the California coastline. The Center boasts over 800 trained volunteers that respond to marine mammal emergencies that occur nearby to their neighborhoods. This dispersed volunteer strategy allows the Marine Mammal Center to arrive on the scene for emergencies very quickly after troubles are found. The Marine Mammal Center has 800+ volunteers and over 30,000 members.

The Sausalito Marine Mammal Center also provides educational materials to the public that elaborate on many types of highly-interesting marine mammal facts. Corporate business groups, community clubs and teachers often use these presentations to provide meaningful entertainment in conjunction with other events. When people visit the City of Sausalito, it is possible to tour the headquarters for the Marine Mammal Center and learn more about the issues that affect the sea mammals living near the San Francisco Bay.
