Sausalito.com welcomes Napa Valley Burger Company with open arms! Or should I say, a very large open mouth! Have you SEEN their burgers?  Besides the fact they look like they were prepared by an artist rather then a chef, I also witnessed the eyes of a small child practically pop from his head as his burger was placed before him.

NVBC is the latest masterpiece of John McManus.  He and his wife have been locals here in Sausalito for over 20 years and have opened 30 restaurants in all parts of the world.  When they heard the Winship location was to become available, they finally felt this could be their hometown location.

The Bridgeway Street location in the heart of downtown Sausalito is the oldest brick building in Sausalito. Built in 1885 by Fred Fiedler it became “Fiedler’s General Store.”  It changed hands just a couple times until in 1981, Bill Charles purchased the building. He opened a soda fountain restaurant and sweet shop, later expanding the menu to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and gave it a nautical theme, calling it “Winship.”  When Bill finally decided it was time to draw up his “anchor”, John and his wife pledged to carry on the legacy of its past offering great food and friendly service even keeping most of the staff on board.

The décor has changed and the once dark and nautical theme is now a thing of the past.  They’ve pulled out the tall booths and removed the dividers opening up the room to tall ceilings, beautiful brick walls and plenty of sunlight.  They’ve added a lounge section with comfortable couches and flat screen televisions where the full menu is still offered.  Photography of the Napa Valley and vineyards beautifully decorate the walls as well as the ornate wine bottle fixtures hanging around the bar.

Now how about that burger?  At NVBC they always uses fresh organic ingredients from independent ranchers and farmers.  Their beef and chicken are 100% natural, free range and vegetarian fed, without hormones, antibiotics, preservatives or additives.  Now isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be?  You can certainly taste the difference as well as appreciate their standards in sustainable and seasonal harvesting.  And what else would you expect on the wine menu other then Napa Valley’s finest?  In addition to keeping a well-balanced list of favorites, they are offering a constantly changing selection of VinTap wines.  If you are unfamiliar with what that means, many wineries are now distributing their wines in small five gallon, stainless steel kegs to supply to the restaurant industry.  This allows for keeping the wines fresh, being able to offer a larger selection and better value on the cost of the wine, and also another solution to doing their part of being “green.” It also means they are able to continually rotate out wines constantly offering new offerings to their guests.

If you haven’t yet tried the Napa Valley Burger Company, you owe it to yourself to do so.  It’s great to have a new place in town the locals can hang out in and enjoy year round.  For tourists just visiting for a couple days, stop by to experience a little bit of the Napa Valley.

Restaurant hours are from 11:30am to 6:00pm, 7 days a week.  They will be reserving the restaurant for private functions anytime after 6:00pm and may accommodate up to 100 people.
