Sausalito is a town known for its rich history and enjoyable boating opportunities. Its close proximity to the Golden Gate Bridge gives many an opportunity to take in a lot of breathtaking scenes. The relaxing boating community, sights, and sounds of this old town attract tourists from all over the world.

Sausalito is not only ideal for boating, but also is known for its unique history. Tours are available that will capture the essence of this historical boating dock town. For three hours, this wooden boat tour is full of attractions that reveal its charm and elegance. Take in a little history by viewing WWII shipyards and discovering how Liberty ships originated. Some popular attractions that line the walkway are the Arques School of Traditional Boat Building and Spaulding Boatworks, which celebrate the artistry of wooden boat making. Tourists can meet the artists, ask them questions about their craft, and view the many boats that bring business to this quaint community. Refreshments are served at the end of the tour in the Butterflute Studios. Don't forget to bring the entire family along for the ride, as children aged twelve and under get in free!

If traveling in a group, the one hour tour is an excellent way to brush up on the town's history, take in a little art, and enjoy the walk on the docks. The Bird Sanctuary is a popular site that gives tourists a glimpse of Bird Boats. Artists that paint on floating studios will allow sightseers to ask questions about their art and what it's like to paint on a boat! Other interesting attractions include floating homes that reside along the waterfront.

Adventure-seeking tourists who want to take in the sights and sounds of California's gold coast will surely enjoy the many boating tours. Many choices are offered, ranging from harbor tours to small boat rides. A harbor tour consists of a 32' long motor yacht called the Grand Bank. This massive floatilla can hold up to 11 people at one time and has a private cabin for more intimate gatherings. In addition, a stove and refrigerator are some of the conveniences that will truly create a unique experience. Guests can sail San Francisco Bay in this stylish sightseer for as low as $55 per person.

For that small boat enthusiast, Sausalito also offers a variety of different tours. San Francisco Bay Adventures is a coastal company that will jumpstart that California vacation. From inflatable 21' hullboats to 40', sailboats, more independent sailors will benefit from these miniature sailboats. Offering one to two passengers, these boats are ideal for making independent voyages around San Francisco bay.

Motorboats are another fun excursion in historic Sausalito. The Zodiac Pro is an inflatable hull boat that is 22' long. A little more expensive than the other boat rides, six passengers can enjoy an outing for $125 an hour on weekdays or $150 an hour on weekends. Half day rentals are available for those who are interested in spending a little more time exploring the ocean blue. Whether sailing or boating, being out on the open sea is an adventure in itself for most tourists.

If visiting California in the near future, don't forget to stop by Sausalito. Known for its lively marine attractions, this boating dock town has something for everyone, from wooden boats to floating art studios. For most tourists, the biggest obstacle is trying to stay dry! It's definitely worth the time and money to spend a day in Sausalito and "get your feet wet" with its culture and history.
