The Features That Make a Bullion Coin Valuable

Coin collecting can be fun and lucrative

What makes a coin valuable? What is all of this you hear about bullion gold and uncirculated golden coins? There are four factors that make a coin valuable, and it must have each of these four qualities.

The coin must have historical value, either because of its age or because of its significance in the modern age. However, history isn’t enough to make a coin valuable; there must also be market value involved. That means that the coin must be desirable to collectors. The historical figures involved in the coin’s production must be well known, and the story a monumental one.

The bullion coin must also be in excellent condition, with no wear, scratches or marks. Even handling a coin can compromise its fine shine. Lastly, a coin must be rare—as in less than 75 mintages. There are valuable coins with several thousand mintages, but the truly life-changing coins you hear about usually have 20 or less surviving specimens.

Some of the top selling coins have included the 1933 Golden Eagle coin, as well as the 1794 American silver dollar coin. These coins were made of differing bullion but still sold for millions based only on their collectible worth.

The good news is that you never truly risk anything when you invest in new coinage. When you are buying precious metal you retain the complete troy ounce value of the coins. Whether you collect or not is irrelevant; you are simply diversifying your assets. Most experts suggest diversifying at least 10% of your assets into precious metals.

These coins will help protect you in the event of an economic crash. Bullion provides stability in price, protection against inflation, store of value properties, and universal acceptance. Even if the dollar bottoms out you can have confidence in these age-old resources.

What is the best way to buy gold or silver coins? You do have the option of buying from a local coin dealer. However, you may find more of a selection if you contact an online dealer. Whenever buying a coin from an online retailer, make sure that you get a money back guarantee, just in case the coin is faked.

In general, it helps to keep apprised of the coin industry, to determine the falling or rising prices of metals, as well as any growing trends in collectible pieces. Why not talk to a coin dealer and get started in this new hobby? It’s not only fun, it’s also profitable.
