Sausalito Parking for Visitors

Parking for Visitors

Sausalito is known for its many beautiful views and scenic hillside locations. But because of the limited parking availability, Sausalito does have an aggressive enforcement program in both the residential and business districts.

Please note that the following is only basic information to help acquaint you with some of the parking rules and regulations and is not meant be be comprehensive in nature.

Parking Meters

  • Parking meters operate 365 days a year, from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm
  • Parking meters are FREE after 6:00 pm
  • Meters take quarters only
  • You receive 15 minutes time per quarter ($1.00 per hour)
  • Most meters allow only 3 hours parking, but read restrictions
  • Parking at a broken / non-functioning meter may result in a citation

Ferry & Downtown Parking

There are five (5) Municipal Parking Lots in Sausalito.

Lots #1, #2, & #3 are in the immediate downtown area and are available for parking if you wish to take the ferry to San Francisco from Sausalito. The ferry leaves from the ferry landing at the end of Lot #1.

Lot #4 is just off of the downtown area but within easy walking distance of both the downtown and Caledonia Street shopping areas.

Lots #5 serves the Caledonia Street businesses and is located at the base of Locust Street.

Lot #1 is adjacent to the Ferry Landing in downtown Sausalito. The entrance is located on Anchor Street at Humboldt Street.

An attendant is on duty from approximately 9:00 am - 8:00 pm.
Payment is required from 7:00am - 10:00pm, 7 days a week (including holidays).
The cost is $1.00 per 20 minutes, or $3.00 per hour. Maximum of $25.00 per day.

Lot #2, on the same block as the Bank of America, is between Anchor and Bay Streets with the entrance on Humboldt Street. This is an unattended lot.

Payment is required from 7:00am - 10:00pm, 7 days a week (including holidays).
The cost is $1.00 per 20 minutes, or $3.00 per hour. Maximum of $25.00 per day.

Lot #3 is across the street from the Casa Madrona Hotel, on the same block as the Visitor Center. The entrance to Lot #3 is on Humboldt Street at Bay Street. This is an unattended lot.

Payment is required from 7:00am - 10:00pm, 7 days a week (including holidays).
The cost is $1.00 per 30 minutes, or $2.00 per hour. Maximum of $25.00 per day.

Lot #4 is on Humboldt Street at Johnson Street and is unattended.

Payment is required from 7:00am - 6:00pm, 7 days a week (including holidays).
The cost is $1.00 per hour. Maximum of $5.00 per day.
This is the most economical lot for visitors taking a day trip via the ferry to San Francisco.

Lot #5 is located at the foot of Locust Street and offers Area L permit parking, as well as free public parking that is strictly limited to three (3) hours parking, between the hours of 12:00 noon and 2:00 am, 7 days a week (including holidays).

RV Parking

Recreational Vehicle (RV) parking is allowed in Municipal Lot #3

  • RVs must proceed to the end of Lot #3 and back into one of the marked spaces on the right side of that lot
  • RVs may be parked for up to 72 hours in Municipal Lot #3
  • Regular Parking Rates and Hours apply
  • Sleeping overnight in vehicles is not allowed within the city limits
  • RVs parked on city streets must be moved at least every 8 hours

Parking in Residential Areas

If you are parking in a residential area - from "Old Town" (the south end of the city) all of the way through downtown to the hills above Caledonia Street (north of the downtown area) - you may need a parking permit to park on the streets for longer than 2 hours in the residential areas. If you are visiting a resident in this area, please check with the resident to see if a permit is required.

If you are frequenting one of the businesses or restaurants near Caledonia Street, check for signs while parking. From 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, parking is limited to two hoursin most areas.

And it should be most strongly noted that some streets above Caledonia Street are clearly posted as being for "Residential Parking Only after 6:00 pm".
